We share in the pain and horror felt by Americans at the tragic and indefensible killing of George Floyd, the latest in a series of unjustified deaths and injuries to People of Color.
Although our nation has made progress in the last decades towards the goal of equal rights, racism and bigotry continue and remain a serious threat to our society and our democracy. We stand with and support those who protest peacefully but forcefully against hatred, persecution and injustice.
At Rainbow, we strive to provide a work environment that provides equal opportunity to everyone, regardless of race, color, ethnic background, gender or gender identity, age, disability, or sexual orientation. These are not just words to us. While we recognize that we sometimes fall short of that objective, we are proud of our record of promotion and advancement of People of Color, especially women. Well over 70 percent of our most senior Management, from Store, District and Regional Managers to those in our eCommerce business, are African-Americans and Latinos. We believe that our workforce should reflect the communities and customers we serve.
In Brooklyn, New York, where our corporate offices and distribution center are located, we support local churches and community groups who assist those in need. We commit to increasing our efforts on behalf of these extraordinary organizations, not only in New York but throughout the country where our associates and customers live.
Each of us has a responsibility to build a better nation and a better world for this generation and for the generations to come. Each of us has a responsibility to speak up and speak out against prejudice and to demand equality and respect for all. As Dr. Martin Luther King said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
